FLUX MAGAZINE

Manuihu to PRINT. Flux Magazine is a favorite magazine of ours. Matt Dekneef & his team do an amazing job at storytelling. We were honored when asked to feature our project. To take the work we documented thus far & prepare it for print was a great experience. Issue 50 releases in April 2026.... & Uncle Kimo Hugho and our Manuihu Project got the cover! Mahalo nui

Star of Gladness

We met up with Uncle Kimo Hugho in Aotearoa. Its difficult to explain all of what this man has done for us voyagers. In short, he was one of the original crew members and crew leaders in 1975. Him and his ʻohana took care of Papa Mau when he arrived to Hawaii, he helped to build Hōkūleʻa, chose & trained original crew AND documented the process with his camera and small audio recorder. His aloha & vision is such a gift and he has shared so much of his work with the project. Mahalo Uncle Kimo

Tahiti - Rarotonga - Aotearoa

June-November we chased the waʻa to Tahiti, Cook Islands, Aotearoa & Hanalei Bay. We shot & sailed, following the mele of the canoes and their stories.

A diverse group of six people are sitting around a table in a well-lit conference room. They are engaged in a discussion, with laptops and papers on the table.

Mele Waʻa

June 2025, Hokuleʻa was departing for Tahiti from Hilo. Three friends (jme, kel & kainani) sat in the backyard with a sip in hand enjoying the beautiful site of Hoku & Hikiʻs sails on the horizon. While the 3 of us talked story about what projects we were up to or dreaming to do; the idea of going on a mele tour with the waʻa was sparked & so it began. We had approx. 15-30 days to meet the fast canoes in Tahiti & see what jam sessions were in store with crew & cousins in Tautira!
